Open Records Policy
TxDMV's policy is to provide you with the fullest possible access to public
information. If you wish to request records under the Texas Public Information
Act, please refer to the following requirements and guidelines.
- Requests must be made in writing. Telephone requests are not considered
open records requests.
- If you would like a response, please include your name, address,
telephone number and a clear description of the records you are requesting
in all open records requests.
- Written requests must be mailed to our
TxDMV, Austin, Texas 78777.
- E-mail requests will be accepted when sent through web
site in accordance with 43 TAC Chapter 207. To send an open records request
now, please use our
Open Records Request Page.
- If the cumulative amount of personnel time spent complying with requests for public information from the same
requestor exceeds 36 hours per fiscal year, TxDMV will provide the requestor with a bill reflecting the estimated total
cost, including materials, personnel time, and overhead expenses, necessary to comply with the request (Government Code,
Section 552.275). This does not apply to most news media or publically funded non-profit legal services organizations.
