Finding a Vehicle Identification Number

A Vehicle Identification Number, also known as VIN, is a serial number attached to each vehicle for identification purposes. You can find the VIN in the following places:

Inside the Vehicle

• On the driver’s side dashboard – stand outside the vehicle and look at the corner where the dashboard meets the windshield.
• In the driver's side door or door jamb – the VIN is usually printed on a sticker in that location.

Other locations

• Vehicle insurance card / insurance policy
• Vehicle title
• Registration sticker
