TexasSure

TexasSure
is designed to reduce the number of uninsured drivers and cut costs
for responsible Texans, who now pay almost $900 million a year to
protect themselves against those with no coverage. Currently, 15-20
percent of Texas drivers are uninsured.
The automated database, a joint project of Texas' departments of motor vehicles, insurance, public safety and information resources, will quickly identify vehicle owners without mandatory insurance coverage.
More information about insurance verification (Financial Responsibility
Verification Program) is available from the
Texas
Department of Insurance.
Steps to Take if you Receive a Notice
You may have received a notice that your policy does not match a vehicle record in TxDMV's database. If you received a notice, it is most likely that your vehicle
identification number (VIN) is incorrect on either your insurance policy or vehicle title.
Help us resolve this error by completing the following steps:
- Compare the VIN on your insurance policy to the one physically located
on your vehicle (usually on the driver's side dashboard).
- Complete the appropriate action:
- If your insurance policy shows the wrong VIN, contact your insurance
agent to correct the problem.
- If your insurance policy shows the correct VIN, then the VIN or your
address may be wrong in our database. Check for discrepancies on your
title, if you have it, and notify us immediately. You or your lienholder
will have to mail us the title for correction. Complete a
Statement of Physical Inspection (Form VTR-270) and mail it to us
(our address is on the form), along with your original title and a copy
of the insurance company notice you received. We will correct title VIN
errors for free, but you must apply within 30 days from the date on your
insurance company's notice. After the 30-day waiver period, you will
need to contact your local
county tax office
to correct your title and pay the applicable processing fee ($28 or
$33).
- If you are unable to compare the VIN on your policy to the one
physically located on your vehicle (because it was sold, is out of state,
etc.), or if your vehicle is not in use, complete a
Statement of Vehicle Use, and mail it to your insurance company.
- Have you moved? Are you unsure whether the state has your correct
address? If you're not sure, please submit change your address
online, by
mail or at your county tax office.
